To avoid this unpleasant scenario, try this simple trick. Line up your shopping bags in the boot, then attach a bungee cord to each side of the boot compartment, running it through the shopping bag handles.

That way, your shopping will stay in a neat row and the bags will remain upright, keeping your groceries contained. When you arrive home, all you need to do is unhook the bungee cord and carry your shopping inside.
