Circular garbage bins with removable lids can fit a large amount of garbage, but the downside is the lids aren’t normally attached.

However, you can hack your bin to keep the lid attached using one of the world’s most versatile fasteners: cable ties.

Simple drill a pair of holes in the lid and two pairs of holes in the bin itself, then thread two cable ties through and fasten them.

The cable ties act as a handy bin lid hinge, and you can then keep the lid attached to the bin when removing the bag, saving you from bending over to pick it up again.

For outdoor bins, it also keeps the lid attached on windy days, meaning you won’t need to retrieve your bin lid from far-flung corners of the yard after a storm rolls through.
