[description] => It's a lot easier than you think to make your furniture from scratch. Have the pieces cut by the supplier or measure up and do it yourself to assemble coffee and dining tables, sofas, storage boxes and more. You can make pieces to suit the size of your rooms and finish them to match the style of your home.

Build Japanese-style dividers to allow for natural light and privacy using hardwood with acrylic panels.
By Handyman Magazine
Traditional oriental screens are easily damaged as the panels are made of rice paper but using frosted acrylic with maple frames modernises this project.
It costs about $700 to make a pair of doors mounted with a 2500mm sliding door kit that has a top guide rail, four wheel assemblies and a track along the floor.
TIP: Buy the tracks for about $80 from a door specialist or hardware store.
Step 7. Apply the finish
Sand the door frames and beading all over with 180 grit abrasive paper then apply a timber stain and two coats of clear polyurethane.
TIP: Leave the back of the beading and part of the bars unstained as adhesive bonds better to bare timber.

Step 8. Install the acrylic
Position each acrylic panel in the frame against the beading then apply adhesive to the remaining beading, pressing it firmly against the panels.
TIP: Cut the acrylic panels 2mm smaller all round to allow for slight inconsistencies in the openings.
Make the pelmet
Build a pelmet to attach the top guide 22mm from the back edge and secure stoppers just inside the ends.
Use a 2500mm length of 20 x 20 x 1.6mm aluminium angle to secure the pelmet to the wall with 50mm x 8g screws into wall studs and 16mm x 6g into the pelmet.
Measure from the wall to the centre of the top guide, attaching the floor track the same distance.
TIP: Adjust the height of the pelmet to suit the combined height of the screen and the track kit hardware plus 5mm extra so the screens can be lifted into position.
