Hi there! My name is Prav, and I’m a third-year apprentice carpenter from Melbourne. I’m super excited to share our story with you about Tool Price Check, a website that my partner Shiv and I created for tradies, tool enthusiasts and DIYers.
Our journey began when I developed a Python script to help me find the best deals on the tools I needed. One day, while I was using this script to purchase tools, Shiv saw the potential in turning it into a website that could cater to a need in the market for a price comparison website specifically for tool buyers. With our combined expertise in business, technology, and construction, we set out to create a platform that could help people save money and make smarter purchasing decisions.
Creating Tool Price Check was a challenging endeavour that required us to learn everything from scratch, as we had no prior experience in web design. While I had dabbled in Python scripting as a hobby in the past, website design was a completely different world. Fortunately, we were able to leverage the wealth of knowledge available on YouTube to guide us through the process.
Despite the steep learning curve, we remained dedicated to the project. Over the 2022 Christmas holidays, we put in long hours, often working 15-hour days and pulling all-nighters. We also worked before and after our regular full-time jobs to ensure that we could meet our goals. Our passion for the project never wavered, as we knew that Tool Price Check had the potential to truly make a difference.
Shiv and Prav worked tirelessly to get Tool Price Check off the ground and have big plans for the site’s future.
Initially, we wanted to develop a search engine that would enable users to input a tool’s model number and receive a price comparison. But we didn’t stop there. We added several additional features, such as barcode scanning, product ratings and reviews submitted by users, statistics on recommended tools, notifications of price drops, a watchlist, and a smart search function. Plus, we value data privacy, and so we created a feature where users can register using a temporary email address instead of their actual email address. We even included the capability to browse for used tools from other platforms like Gumtree and eBay, so you can find the best deal no matter where it is!
Tool Price Check has been live for almost two months, and we’re ecstatic about the positive feedback we’ve received from the trades community. But our website is far from complete, and we have exciting plans for the future. We’re more than just a price comparison website; we’re creating transparency within the tool retail space with the help of real user reviews and ratings. By providing this information, we hope to help people make informed decisions about the tools they buy. We’re committed to making Tool Price Check the go-to platform for anyone looking to buy tools, and we’re passionate about educating people on the value of investing in quality tools that last a lifetime.
