A cat on a timber outdoor table

They say you should never work with children or animals and some days I can see why.

But here at Handyman we love our pets. Between us we have a horse, an alpaca, goats, sheep, chickens, cats and dogs.

Sheron, our advertising director, routinely brings her three dogs into the office. Scruffy, Scooby and Joey love attending meetings and have been known to make surprise appearances in the ladies room.

The rest of us put photos of our pets in the magazine and on social media whenever we can.

We also keep on top of DIY projects for pet owners, check out this doghouse we made from recycled fence palings.

The dog isn’t one of ours, he was a pro booked through a modelling agency. Unlike the photobombing cat featured in this blog. Her name is Hazelnut and she belongs to my roommate.

Whenever I am working on a project from home she thinks it’s a modelling job. The click of the camera brings her running and posing. (Strangely enough the sound of a tape measure being pulled terrifies her, and it happens a lot at my place.)

I used to try to get rid of her when I was working but now I just include her photobombs into the story which is how this picture came about. I was in the backyard one day about to give my old timber folding table a good scrub and oil when she jumped up and wouldn’t budge until I’d taken her photo.

And we know it happens to you too when you DIY, we’ve seen the pictures! But we always like to see more, so feel free to post your pics to our Instagram with #HandymanPets

Here’s another shot of Hazelnut checking out an adjustable flyscreen I tried at home as part of a story.
